California Statewide Assessments (CAASPP)
Each spring, students in Grades 11th and 12th grade participate in the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP). The tests (also known as the Smarter Balanced/SBAC tests) were created specifically to gauge each student’s performance in English language arts/literacy (ELA), mathematics, and science. These tests measure the skills called for by the academic standards, including the ability to write clearly, think critically, and solve problems. Given online, the tests are computer-adaptive, allowing more precise measurement of individual skills.
Pursuant to California Education Code Section 60615, parents/guardians may annually submit to the school a written request to excuse their child from any or all of the CAASPP assessments
FERPA
To comply with FERPA and according to the California Department of Education's request, CHYBA is posting the following link to CDE's website regarding the Morgan Hill Case. This link provides the notice and objection form required by FERPA.

Anti Bullying
California Heritage YouthBuild Academy has determined that the following is the definition of what Bullying is, and who will be considered to be a Bully.
“Bullying is when someone repeatedly and on purpose says or does mean or hurtful things to another person who has a hard time defending him or herself.”
(California Education Code sections 200, 220, 233, and 48900.3 require all schools to address issues of bullying and to intervene and to assign appropriate consequences whenever bullying occurs)
NOTE: This includes electronic bullying and all forms of social media and electronic/digital communication.
Here at CHYBA we utilize STOPit an anonymous reporting system for bullying and other school safety concerns. STOPit is an online based platform that allows reporting of any type of harmful or inappropriate behavior and instantly and anonymously connects students with the staff who can resolve school safety issues.
Download the app today! Our school access code can be provided by our school administrator or any teacher on campus.

Housing Insecurity Support – Homeless Student Services
The Federal McKinney Vento Homeless Assistance Act (Homeless Student Services) ensures education rights and protections for children and youth. The intent of the law is to make certain that eligible children and youth have the right to:
Equal access to the same free, appropriate public education including a public preschool education
Enroll in and attend school, participate fully in the school program, and have the opportunity to meet the same challenging academic achievement standards to which all students are held.
For more information regarding the McKinney-Vento Program, please click here.
To find out if you qualify for the McKinney-Vento Program, fill out this questionnaire and return to Chelsea Martinez, Program Director and Registrar, at cmartinez@chybacharter.com or in person at 3570 Rancho Road, Suite #5, Redding, CA 96002.
You may also contact Cindy Vogt, Case Manager / Educational Support Liaison at California Heritage YouthBuild Academy at 530.378.5254 for more information.
Anxiety, stress or any mental health disorder can be challenging enough for children and adolescents. When going to school—attending classes, focusing on lessons and doing homework—intersects with the instability and uncertainty that comes with homelessness, those feelings can intensify. Click here for more information regarding How to Address Mental Health for Students Experiencing Homelessness.

One important step in encouraging our youth to have a voice and feel empowered is to register to vote. If you know of someone who is eligible to vote and would like to register please follow this link. If you are 16 or 17 you may also follow this link to pre-register to vote.

Become a mentor
YouthBuild members transform their lives and roles in society through earning their GED, high school diploma, or college credits, learning job skills, and serving their community through building affordable housing. Mentors are a key part of the YouthBuild community, supporting the learning, development, and exploration of young people. A mentor is an individual who wants to have a positive impact on a young adult’s life. He or she is a trusted and caring person who provides positive solutions and support. Mentors have the opportunity to provide access to people, places, and things outside the mentee’s daily routine and environment. YouthBuild mentors help focus attention on their mentee’s YouthBuild Life Plan, participate in group mentoring and enrichment activities, communicate twice a month with the mentor coordinator, and participate in ongoing training sessions.
